Our client is a highly-regarded, privately-held communications firm sitting at the intersection of business, politics, and policy. They are sought out for their expertise in public affairs, corporate reputation, and social impact. Their clients span Fortune 100 companies in financial, tech, retail, energy & sustainability, plus advocacy groups, non-profits and progressive political candidates.
Due to recent growth, they’re seeking a Senior Director or Managing Director, Corporate Communications (VP/SVP equivalent). This role will lead program development, writing, storytelling, and media engagement for some of the most admired companies in finance and climate sustainability. It will act as trusted advisor to clients, helping them recognize opportunities for thought leadership across market events, news and societal topics. It will groom a talented Account team and work with the agency’s Partners on new business efforts.
Candidates should be able to work out of the NYC, Washington DC or Chicago office, following a hybrid schedule.
Primary responsibilities include:
Client & Account Management– You will be responsible for supporting the agency’s Partners and Executive Leadership team on a variety of accounts. You will serve as the main point of contact and handle the daily management, communication and execution of services for the client, which often include senior management or executive level decision-makers.
Team Management & Communication– You will be responsible for developing members on your team in their fields of expertise and building them to become the next leaders in the agency. You will coach and mentor your team’s performance and manage their quality of work to ensure they are efficient and effective in meeting client deliverables. You will work collaboratively and communicate with internal, cross office and cross department team members to ensure timelines and quality expectations for client deliverables are met.
New Business Efforts– You will work with agency partners and other senior leaders to develop and pitch new business opportunities. You are capable of managing the agency’s existing clients and establishing new client relationships. In support of new business opportunities, you are comfortable drafting proposals and producing materials for client pitches with minimal direction and oversight from agency Partners. You’ll be part of the new business team and be responsible for developing industry relationships and building an external profile in the industry. As part of driving new business efforts, your minimum core deliverable will be maintaining and growing your core book of business. You’ll help drive new business efforts by identifying and recruiting industry leaders and contributing to the agency’s thought leadership and intellectual capital by producing case studies, writing blog posts and becoming an externally known expert in the industry.
Desired Skills And Experience
- 10+ years of public affairs or strategic communications experience, preferably in a communications agency. Strong financial and/or climate sustainability background preferred
- Exceptional presentation, writing and analytical skills and the ability to write both strategically and creatively under tight timelines
- Media relations experience and existing reporter relationships
- Proven project management experience, including overseeing a team managing deliverables for multiple clients
- Extremely strong writing and editing capabilities with experience managing social media campaigns
- Experience managing and providing clear feedback to team members
- Comfortable handling strategic planning and daily execution of services for clients
Benefits
Our client offers a comprehensive total compensation package for this role to include but not limited to a targeted minimum base salary of $150,000, an annual discretionary bonus, and generous benefits. Actual base and bonus compensation will be determined by a wide variety of factors, such as skillset, level of experience, and other qualifications.
